What we see most

Most Common Dryer Issues

Dryers fail in a handful of familiar ways — most tied to heat, airflow, or a failed safety component. Here's what we fix every week.

Schedule Repair

Clothes tumble but come out wet. The heat side of a dryer is a chain of components — one failure stops the whole thing:

  • A failed heating element (electric) or igniter (gas)
  • A blown thermal fuse from a restricted vent
  • A stuck gas coil or bad flame sensor
  • A tripped one-leg 240V breaker (motor runs, heat won't)

Long dry times are almost always an airflow problem — and the #1 fire hazard in the home. Common causes:

  • A clogged lint filter or lint-choked duct
  • A crushed or too-long exhaust vent
  • A blocked outside vent hood or bird nest
  • A weak blower wheel or slipping drive belt

A dead dryer usually points to a tripped breaker, a failed door switch (the drum won't run with the door open), a blown thermal fuse, or a bad start switch — any of which stop the motor circuit cold.

Squealing, thumping, or grinding almost always means worn drum rollers, a failed idler pulley, a stretched belt, or a bad blower wheel. Ignoring it usually turns a $150 repair into a full motor replacement.

A dryer that runs hot then shuts down is protecting itself from a real fire risk — usually a restricted vent, a bad cycling thermostat, or a failed high-limit safety. This one shouldn't wait.

Why it matters

Why a Safe Dryer Matters

A working dryer isn't just about clean laundry — it's about airflow, energy, and fire safety in your home.

Fire Safety

Clogged dryer vents cause thousands of home fires every year. A repair is also a safety inspection.

Lower Energy Bills

A restricted vent or weak element can double dry times and quietly spike your utility bill.

Clothes That Last

An overheating dryer weakens fabric fibers. Proper heat protects your clothes and linens.

Before you call

Try this
before you call.

A few quick checks rule out the obvious. If the issue persists, we're one call away.

Safety first

Unplug the unit (or shut off gas, for gas dryers) before opening any panel. Never run a dryer with a disconnected or blocked vent — it's a leading cause of house fires.

  1. 01

    Check Power & Outlet

Confirm the dryer is plugged in and the 240V outlet is live. A dryer can tumble on one leg while heat is dead — check both breakers.

  2. 02

    Clean the Lint Filter

Clean the filter every load and vacuum the housing monthly. A clogged filter starves the burner and trips the thermal fuse.

  3. 03

    Clear the Exhaust Vent

Disconnect the vent behind the dryer and confirm strong airflow at the outside hood. A crushed or clogged run is the #1 cause of no-heat and long dry times.

  4. 04

    Verify Gas Supply (Gas Dryers)

Confirm the gas shutoff valve behind the dryer is fully open. If other gas appliances aren't heating either, contact your utility.

Done right

Why Expert Dryer Repair Beats DIY

A dryer looks simple from the outside, but the heat circuit is a safety-interlocked chain of igniters, coils, thermostats, thermal fuses, and high-limit switches. Replacing the wrong part sends you back to the parts store — and sometimes trips the same fuse the next day.

Our certified techs test each component in the chain, replace only what's failed, and verify the whole heat and airflow path before packing up. Every repair is backed by a warranty on parts and labor.

We also catch what most homeowners miss — a lint-choked venting run, a worn blower wheel, weak drum bearings — and flag them before they become the next breakdown or a fire hazard.
